DEPOK – The moment of celebration and graduation of alumni of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FISIP UI) at the Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral levels was held on Thursday (8/8/2024) at the Purnomo Prawiro Multipurpose Hall, FISIP UI Depok Campus. The Pre-Graduation Event with the tagline “Your Future is About to Start” is a routine agenda held by FISIP UI before the Combined Graduation of Even Semester Academic Year 2023/2024 on August 24-25, 2024. With pride, FISIP UI graduated 601 alumni with 248 of them holding Cum Laude degrees. The Department of Communication Science of Universitas Indonesia itself graduated 117 alumni, namely 25 bachelors, 5 International Special Class bachelors, 82 masters, and 5 doctorates.
A personality with character and the ability to act scientifically are the expectations of the Dean of FISIP UI for FISIP UI alumni. “One of the characteristics of a scholar is the ability to think logically and scientifically while at the same time displaying character as a person full of integrity,” said Prof. Dr. Semiarto Aji Purwanto in his opening remarks.
Meanwhile, Kenzie Sultan Ryvantya, a representative of graduates from the Bachelor of Political Science Program, is optimistic that FISIP UI alumni will be able to compete in the world of work thanks to their high resilience, good adaptability, and skills in expressing themselves.
“I am sure that the children of FISIP UI are the most able to work and be creative because they are the ones who are the best at expressing themselves freely and openly,” he said firmly.
Dian Sunardi Munaf, an alumnus of Communication Science FISIP UI class of 1994 who now serves as Director of Marketing Corporate Brawijaya Hospital & Clinic was also present to share his experience in pursuing a career from the beginning of graduation to be in his current position. She shared how she started her career as an Account Executive at an agency, to now being the Marketing & Auxiliary Director at Brawijaya Healthcare Group.
Also present was Dewi Utari, an Anthropology alumnus of FISIP UI class of 1999 who currently holds the position of Director of Human Resources and General Affairs of PT. Asuransi Jasa Indonesia (Jasindo), speaking about the stigma that majors taken in college are not relevant to future employment. He said that any knowledge learned during college will definitely be useful in everyone’s professional career.
“So friends here, whatever you graduate from, rest assured that there is one field of your study that will be the foundation for you to think, work, and continue to grow, contributing wherever you are, whether in corporations, civil servants, or entrepreneurs,” said Dewi.
Dewi Lestari Natalia, one of the alumni of the Postgraduate Program in Communication (Pascakom) UI, admitted that she was happy to be able to complete her studies on time even though she regretted parting with her friends at Pascakom UI. He expressed his gratitude to Pascakom UI for creating a campus atmosphere that is family and full of hospitality for its students.
“I think Communication Science is a multidisciplinary science that can be used by all lines of business today, including the organization where I work. Hopefully in the future Postcomm UI can continue to create great alumni and benefit many things,” hoped the woman who is familiarly called Dee. (SAC/RAP)
