SALEMBA, The Postgraduate Association of Communication Sciences of Universitas Indonesia (HIMPASKOM UI) again held an annual event to welcome new students of the Postgraduate Program in Communication UI, the event was entitled “Welcoming Freshmen 2024.” The Welcoming Freshmen 2024 event was festively held on Friday, August 30, 2024.
The event began with the opening of the two MCs, Lely and Ismail, which was then followed by remarks from the Chair and Vice Chair of Himpaskom 3.0, Hetty Mery Marbun and Ilham Alhuda. In their remarks, both of them hoped that the “Welcoming Freshmen 2024” event could be entertaining and acceptable to all new students who attended the afternoon event.
The series of events continued with a sharing session from UI’s Postgraduate Program in Communication alumni. On this occasion, Himpaskom UI invited Dede Kurniyawan, an alumnus of 2022 as well as the Former Chairperson of Himpaskom 2.0 and Liza Erica Panjaitan, an alumnus of 2022. Both shared their experiences during their Postgraduate studies and provided tips and tricks to be able to complete their studies with and get the best results. Among them are strategies for writing publications and writing theses to graduate on time.
Not only that, the event which lasted for approximately four hours was also filled with interesting entertainment. Starting from eating together with a potluck system so that the sense of kinship is increasingly felt, then continued with fun games as ice breaking, and closed with a magic show from one of the Himpaskom 3.0 members, Sendha Octory.
Rinaldo Hermawan, Coordinator of Welcoming Freshmen 2024 as well as Chairperson of the Internal Division of Himpaskom 3.0 said that this event was made to establish a relationship between the ranks. “The purpose of this event is to form a relationship and networking between the previous batch and the new batch,” said Rinaldo.
Meanwhile, a new student from batch 2024, Galih, expressed his excitement after attending the Welcoming Freshmen 2024 event. He said that this event could be used for new students to get to know each other or network with seniors.
“It’s really cool, I mean it was also conveyed that there are not all associations for the postgraduate level. Himpaskom turned out to be one of the pioneers who had an association and indeed this event (ed: Welcoming Freshmen 2024) is really cool for joining and introducing us, new students with each other or with seniors,” said Galih.
