The Doctoral Program in Communication Sciences, University of Indonesia is one of the pioneers of the Communication Sciences of Doctoral Program in Indonesia. Until mid-2023, the number of graduates is 140 people. Alumni of doctoral programs work in various fields, ranging from research institutions (BRIN, media R&D, etc.), university leaders (Dean / Head of Study Program), government officials, political parties, to leaders in private companies. The curriculum of the doctoral program is constantly updated, adjusting to the development of communication studies and research.

Vision

Towards an academic institution that continues to develop education and research, and leads to changes in the field of multidisciplinary communication in a specialized manner that refers to the principles of scientific quality and education with a national and global outlook, towards excellence in the Southeast Asia.

Mission

  1. To organize doctoral-level education that relies on (a) the latest developments in the field of multidisciplinary communication sciences, and (b) trying to adapt to industry demands.
  2. To develop and lead academic and practical research in the field of communication that is useful for the world of communication sciences and industry.
  3. To develop academic and practical publications related to contemporary issues in the communication sciences field, which provide alternative solutions.
  4. To lead community service based on information and communication needs according to the right multidisciplinary communication perspective.

Objective

  1. To produce a Doctor of Communication sciences that develops insight, knowledge and expertise about various communication techniques and methods and their implementation in communication management.
  2. To produce Doctoral-level researchers who develop theories and methodologies of Communication sciences as a multi, inter, and transdisciplinary approach so that they are able to develop theories and their applications.
  3. Produce a Doctor of Communication sciences who has the expertise to develop communication theories and concepts to be implemented in solving communication problems and increasing communication effectiveness and efficiency.
  4. Produce a Doctor of Communication sciences who can manage, lead, and develop communication activity programs in advertising, public relations, mass media, business, information technology, and management.

Cooperation

The Doctoral Program collaborates with various institutions, in the form of staff exchange, seminars, and joint research.

History

The first batch of the Doctoral Program was held in 1982. At the time, lectures were unstructured as part of the social sciences doctoral program. Since 1993, the Doctoral Program began to be held independently, separate from the doctoral program in social sciences. Officially, the establishment of the doctoral program was approved through Decree No. 577/DIKTI/Kep/1993. This program is a pioneer of the communication sciences of doctoral program in Indonesia.
