On Thursday, July 20, 2023, the Graduate Program of Communication Sciences of the University of Indonesia held a doctoral promotion session for Verdy Firmantoro at the Juwono Sudarsono Auditorium (AJS), Building F 2nd Floor, FISIP UI Campus, Depok. Verdy Firmantoro is one of the doctoral program students at the UI Postgraduate Program in Communication Sciences class of 2019 who successfully completed his dissertation entitled “Media Hybridity: The Space Between Management or Political Decisions (Study of Political Journalism Policy Dynamics in Media Group Network).”
Verdy Firmantoro’s doctoral promotion session was chaired by Prof. Isbandi Rukminto Adi, PhD, and attended by Prof. Dr. Dra. Billy Sarwono as promoter, Dr. Irwansyah, S.Sos., M.A.. as copromoter and the examination team namely, Prof. Dr. Hafied Cangara, M.Sc, Prof. Dr. Phil. Hermin Indah Wahyuni, S.IP., M.Si., Dr.rer.soc. Masduki, S.Ag., M.Si, Dr. Eriyanto, S.I.P., M.Si., and Dr. Indah Santi Pratidina, S.Sos., M.Soc.Sci. Verdy Firmantoro’s family, colleagues, and students also attended and provided support.
As a political communication expert, Verdy Firmantoro explained that this dissertation aims to explain and analyze the expression of media hybridity in the dynamics of political journalism policies at Media Group Network. This qualitative study answers how hybridization in the realm of political journalism policy governance affects the formation of media organizational models. Then in this dissertation Verdy Firmantoro concluded that to build a complete media future paradigm it is not enough to look at macro and micro aspects, but it is important to explore the meso level, especially aspects of media governance and strategic management.
During the trial, Verdy Firmantoro managed to answer each of the examiners’ questions calmly and comprehensively. At the end of the hearing, the entire examination team expressed their pride to Verdy Firmantoro who had successfully completed this hearing with a very satisfying predicate. (DLN)
