Excellent Research Seminar on 56th Anniversary of FISIP UI by Communication Lecturer

DEPOK — Welcoming 56 years of FISIP UI’s journey for the Country, the FISIP UI Anniversary in 2024 was lively in the form of a series of interesting events and expanding scientific horizons. The 56th anniversary of FISIP UI falls on February 1, 2024, but the series of celebrations has started since the end of January with the Volleyball and Table Tennis Competitions which took place from January 22 to February 13, 2024.

As a form of gratitude for the contribution to the country, this anniversary presents a Featured Research Seminar on the work of proud FISIP UI academics. Some of the sessions were filled and led by academics and lecturers of the Department of Communication Science FISIP UI. Session 1 with the title “Community Collaboration in Handling the Spread of False Information After the Covid-19 Pandemic”, was presented by Prof. Dr. Donna Asteria as Professor of the Department of Communication Science FISIP UI who discussed her studies in Bali. Where his research aims to map community collaboration at the local level in an effort to anticipate the spread of false information that often occurs in Bali during the post-Covid-19 pandemic. Based on the results of her research, Prof. Donna emphasized the need to improve the digital media literacy skills of the community, as well as the importance of the participation of local media communities in monitoring and clarifying information.

The Featured Research Seminar starts on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 08.30 at the Juwono Sudarsono Auditorium, 2nd Floor F Building, FISIP UI Depok. The event was solemn with enthusiastic discussions from the audience, which was dominated by students. Sessions 1 and 2 were moderated by a lecturer at the Department of Communication Science FISIP UI, Dr. Camelia Catharina. Session 2 discussed the topic of “Youth Engagement in Climate and Environmental Issues in Indonesia”, which highlighted youth activism as a sustainable regeneration role for environmental issues and the future of the nation. At the end of the session, Dr. Camelia as the moderator underlined the challenges that await youth engagement, such as the difficulty of turning awareness into action regarding environmental issues, so she suggested the need for greater and systematic efforts.

Moving on to a broader scope of discussion, Session 3 voiced “Asian Studies: A Lesson from Indonesia.” The presenter of the 3rd Session was Dr. Inaya Rakhmani, Lecturer at the Department of Communication Science FISIP UI and also the Head of Asia Research Center FISIP UI. This research seminar discusses the role of government, community, academia, and society in organizing and linking the benefits of the knowledge creation process. Where this research underscores the importance of a conducive climate of knowledge formation in order to yield large electoral returns. Dr. Inaya expressed the importance of self-organization in different “spaces” and cooperation by many parties in order to create liberating science.

The Flagship Research Seminar continued enthusiastically through Sessions 4, 5, and 6. And continued with a 2-day Policy Seminar on Wednesday-Thursday, February 21-22, 2024.
