SALEMBA – Student mobility at the University of Indonesia’s Postgraduate Program in Communication Sciences is quite high, as some students not only study but also work. So that some students choose to use private vehicles to facilitate the movement of mobilization from one place to another. However, due to the limited parking space at the UI Salemba Campus, sometimes students often have difficulty finding parking. Here are 5 (five) tips and tricks to get a parking space for a private vehicle, be it a car or motorcycle:

1. Parking at UI Salemba Campus Parking Building

UI Salemba Campus has a 3-story parking lot that can be used by students. Unfortunately, the location of this parking lot is quite far from the Postgraduate Communication Science lecture hall. The capacity of this parking lot is also small and quite cramped. So, you have to be very careful when parking your vehicle to avoid scratching or grazing other vehicles. If you’re lucky, you can also park your vehicle along the road to the parking lot, but make sure it’s safe and not blocking the road.

2. Arrive Early to Campus

The limited parking space at the UI Salemba Campus requires students to arrive early before class starts. Usually the morning lecture starts at 08.00 WIB and around 07.30 WIB the campus parking lot starts to get crowded. So, it would be nice if at 07.00 WIB you are already in the campus area because at that time the parking lot still tends to be quiet and there are still many places available. Moreover, from the parking lot to the Postgraduate Communication Science lecture hall can take about 10-15 minutes on foot. You don’t want to be late for class because you can’t find parking.

3. Parking in the Faculty of Medicine Area

The car parking area around the Faculty of Medicine is quite large. From the entrance, students can turn left towards the Faculty of Medicine. There is a student parking lot, but since this is the Faculty of Medicine’s parking lot, it is usually used by medical students. However, if conditions permit, students of other majors may use the area for parking.

4. Car Parking at Kenari Market

There is another alternative if students do not find a car parking lot in the campus area. Students can park at the Kenari Market located only 400 meters from the campus entrance. Pasar Kenari provides a basement area and a large parking lot with parking rates that are not too expensive. Once the car is safely parked, students can walk to campus.

5. Motorcycle Parking at Alfa X Salemba

Another alternative for students who bring motorbikes, you can park at the Alfa X Selamba parking lot located opposite the UI Salemba Campus. Although it is not a public parking lot, the parking guards at Alfa X are quite friendly with the students who park their motorbikes there. However, students need to be aware that the parking area is an open parking area.

These are some tips and tricks for finding a private vehicle parking lot around the UI Salemba Campus. Another alternative to avoid the difficulty of finding a parking space is to use public transportation. Besides being cheap and environmentally friendly, public transportation to UI Salemba Campus is also very diverse. So, do you prefer to take private or public transportation to campus?
