SALEMBA – Currently, air pollution in Jakarta is getting worse. The Director General of Pollution Control and Environmental Damage in bbc.com said that one of the largest contributors to emissions in Indonesia comes from the transportation sector, which is 44%. Therefore, it would be nice to reduce the use of private vehicles as a small effort in reducing Jakarta’s air pollution caused by motor vehicle emissions.

For those of you who study at the University of Indonesia (UI) Salemba Campus, you can try taking public transportation as a small step in the midst of worsening pollution issues. Due to its strategic location, UI Salemba Campus can be accessed by various public vehicles, ranging from angkot/mikrolet, bajaj, commuter line trains, Transjakarta buses, JakLingko, and also online vehicles.

If you are a student living in Bogor or Depok, you can take the commuter line train to Jakarta Kota and get off at Cikini Station. From the station you can walk a little towards the Bung Karno University Stop then take JakLingko which passes Salemba, then get off at the UI Salemba Campus Stop. Riding JakLingko is free! You only need to tap with your electronic money card when getting on and off the car.

Students who live in Bekasi, there are several recommendations for public transportation that you can access. First, you can take the commuter line train to Angke via Manggarai and get off at Matraman Station, then take mikrolet M01 or M01A or Transjakarta bus corridor 5 from Matraman Baru Stop and get off at Salemba UI Stop. Second, take the commuter line to Kampung Bandan via Pasar Senen then get off at Kramat Station, then you can take an bajaj or online motorcycle taxi, or you can also walk a little to the right of the station and take mikrolet 04 via Salemba. Third, you can take Mayasari Bakti’s Patas 9A public bus to Bekasi-Pasar Senen or the B22 Bekasi-Juanda transjabodetabek bus via East Bekasi and get off at the Salemba UI bus stop.

If you are coming from Tangerang or South Tangerang, you can take the commuter line to Tanah Abang, transit at Tanah Abang station and continue to take the commuter line to Bekasi/Cikarang then get off at Matraman Station. After that you can take mikrolet M01 or M01A or Transjakarta bus corridor 5 from Matraman Baru bus stop and get off at Salemba UI bus stop. If you’re in a hurry, you can take an online motorcycle taxi from Tanah Abang Station.

For students around the Jakarta area, UI Salemba Campus can be accessed by Transjakarta bus corridor 5 which passes through Salemba UI bus stop and also several Mikrolet such as M01, M01A, or JP04. It’s quite easy to use public transportation to the UI Salemba Campus. Instead of contributing to emissions and worsening Jakarta’s pollution with private vehicles, let’s take public transportation to campus!
